TELEMARK SKIING
Telemark Skiing is often touted as “the world’s oldest new sport.” Many moons ago in Norway (1870 to be exact), telemark skiing was born. In recent years, the popularity of telemark skiing (often referred to as “tele-skiing”) has grown tremendously.Like alpine downhill skiing, telemark skiing is a fun way to descent snowy terrain. The bindings are very different, however, and tele-skiers actually free the heels of their feet as they make graceful, rhythmic turns down the mountain. Many skiersprefer tele-skiing because it allows them to access backcountry terrain more efficiently. Also, if you’ve alpine-skied for years and years, it might be a fun, fresh challenge to learn this new style of skiing.
