Luxury vacation rental home with breathtaking views!
Jackson, Wyoming
**Minimum Night Stay Requirements May Vary**
Three miles outside of Jackson, on a winding country road, a ranch gate marked by two bugling elk heralds a very special property: Elk Refuge, a jewel among Jackson Hole luxury vacation rentals. Set, as its name implies, on the very grounds of the National Elk Refuge, it is a big, open house, built all on one level, in the simple, pared down style of National Park buildings, trim painted in classic camp-green. Great herds of elk cross the wide grasslands on the other side; fox, coyotes, deer and eagles are abundant. The huge, jagged Tetons reign silent over all.
The exterior simplicity of Elk Refuge is deceptive - for inside, all is richness and color, texture and comfort, excellence of design. Monumental windows accommodate the monumental views. The great room, in the center of the house, is truly great. Long leather couches look out to the breath-taking panorama outside; huge peeled tree trunks support the peaked ceiling.
The dining area, kitchen and breakfast table all fall under the auspices of the great room, each space open to the next and warmed by the beautiful river rock fireplace. The gleaming wood floors, the burnished red-gold of the log walls, the antler chandeliers, the clear changing blues of the sky-filled windows, the bright throw rugs and flowers: all combine to create a home so graceful, you might well want to stay forever.
Wide decks function as a second great room in good weather. A gathering of forest-green Adirondack chairs, a hot tub big enough for a crowd. All, of course, with a vast and heavenly view. Moon and stars sail slowly over the mountains; owls each sunrise is a new and thrilling thing.
A few steps off the kitchen is the family room: a media center, a bar, a hang-out spot; the place for parties, family game tournaments or pizza and movie night. Ample leather armchairs and couches provide plenty of space to kick back. With a fire in the fireplace, a film on the wide TV, music playing on the distributed audio system and drinks on tap at the bar, the family room gets plenty of use.
The master suite is located at the southwest end of the house, in a wing of its own near the family room. A king size bed waits a few steps up in a raised portion of the room; and a TV is mounted on the wall facing the bed for late night news or movies. A big sitting area with two love seats and two comfortable armchairs stands before French doors and a wide private deck. There is a spacious, walk-in closet. In the private bathroom, a giant soaking tub stands next to a big, walk-in shower. Double sinks are set in a long stone-topped vanity.
Elk Refuge has a wonderful, fire-lit office off of the Great Room that can be quickly and easily converted to another guest bedroom if needed. A fold-out leather couch faces the wood-burning fire; a desk, not pictured, is bordered on both sides by floor-to-ceiling bookcases.
There are five guest bedrooms each with their own comforts and joys. Most of the bedrooms share large bathrooms and closets, which open off the hallway. Bedroom one has queen-size log bed, a door to the front deck and a bathroom shared with the family room. The Junior Master has a king bed, a small TV, and a private full bath.
Guest bedrooms two and three are charming, perfect for children, teens or anyone, really. Views from the windows frame the foothills of the Gros Ventre Range. Bedroom three has two twin beds standing side-by-side. It shares a bathroom with bedroom four, which can be a private room for one, or, with the trundle bed pulled out, can sleep two. Finally, bedroom four, has a queen bed and windows on two sides.
Your Clear Creek Group concierge will be happy to arrange special, on-property experiences for you as well: a private chef to prepare a feast for a family celebration, a couple’s massage before the fire in the great room, perhaps a sleigh ride through the snowy woods.
