A row of cowboy hats hanging from exposed reclaimed beams and a leather-upholstered bench made from elk antlers greet you in the entry of Four Pines 9. The design and décor of this four-bedroom, reverse-living home in the Shooting Star community leave no doubt that you’re in Wyoming. (If the elk antlers and cowboy hats aren’t big enough clues, maybe spotting a moose wandering along the stream that runs through the back yard will be. And yes, moose really have been spotted from here.)
The first floor of this house is dedicated to bedrooms, all of which have their own bathrooms. There are three of them, including a bunkroom with four beds (all with Woolrich Hudson’s Bay wool blankets), and another bedroom with twin beds. The western-most bedroom, which is a short snowball’s throw from the stream, moose sometimes wander along, is the junior master, with a queen-size bed and windows facing the stream and southern Tetons. Also on the first floor is the laundry room, mud room, entrance to the garage, and easy access to the stone patio and hot tub.
As cozy and comfortable as the first-floor bedrooms are, the heart of this home is upstairs. Over the last five years, reverse living homes—where the master suite and main living areas are upstairs and guest rooms and accessory rooms on the ground level—have become popular in Jackson Hole. In such a stunning landscape, homeowners want to maximize views.
And the views from Four Pines 9’s second floor do steal the show. Eventually you’ll notice the high ceilings, vintage Native American prints on the walls, and the contemporary Native American rugs underfoot, but your first few days here will be all about admiring what’s outside the windows. The kitchen/dining/living room area has west-, north-, and south-facing windows and it seems each aspect is more gorgeous than the last. A window over the kitchen sink frames Teton Pass (south). The western windows are the largest and face the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. (They also allow for spectacular sunset views.) See the Teton Range stretching into the distance through the north windows. Better than these windows though, is a large north-facing deck. With such a setting to BBQ—there’s a gas grill out there—it’s possible you might never use the Wolf oven and range in the professional-grade kitchen inside.
The master suite is at the north end of the second floor and its feel is in tune with the rest of the house: understated Western. A gas-burning fireplace with a rock surround sits at the foot of a king-size bed with an updated, more delicate version of the classic log bedframe.
Shooting Star is home to Jackson Hole’s most in-demand addresses. Four Pines is within walking distance of the shopping and dining in the base area of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and just a few miles from the entrance of Grand Teton National Park. A ski shuttle to the slopes is available during ski season. A bike pathway connects Shooting Star to the towns of Wilson and Jackson.
