We’re not saying Ridge Retreat is one of the most spectacular homes in Jackson Hole … Mountain Living magazine said it. The magazine, which highlights the Mountain West’s best architecture, design, and interiors, selected the 5,400-square-foot Ridge Retreat, which has five-bedrooms, an outdoor living room, and views of the Tetons and Sleeping Indian, as its Home of the Year.
Perched at the northern end of a butte in the middle of Jackson Hole, Ridge Retreat is an equidistant drive (about 20 minutes) from downtown Jackson and the skiing and summer activities found in Teton Village. While its location makes it a convenient base camp from which to explore everything that draws people to Jackson Hole from around the world, Ridge Retreat’s location in a gated neighborhood ensures privacy. We can’t guarantee that elk, moose, or black bears won’t come wandering through, though.
Designed by Bozeman-based Pearson Design Group, Ridge Retreat is a modern take on a traditional mountain home. You won’t find any logs here, but there is reclaimed snow fence and weathered wood. “We can tip our hats to the Western vernacular without making this a traditional log cabin,” Pearson interior designer Rain Houser told Mountain Living. “The key to marrying rustic and modern elements is the experience. You expect to see these things in a mountain home in Jackson, but we used them in ways that make you experience or see them differently.”
Don’t be surprised if, while staying at Ridge Retreat, you’re tempted to spend an entire day (or two) of your vacation at the house. Start the day with an espresso in the outdoor living room, which can be enjoyed year-round thanks to a fireplace and sliding barn doors that keep out wind — before moving into the kitchen for a family breakfast. Spend the afternoon hanging out in the indoor great room enjoying a book and the changing light on the surrounding mountains. While a private chef is preparing your dinner, take a walk around the neighborhood and then end the day with a movie in the home theater.
Ridge Retreat’s five bedrooms —four of which have queen size beds (the primary suite has a king-size bed) — are as charmingly sophisticated as its public spaces. The ground level has three of the bedrooms (the home theater and laundry room are also on this level) that are similar in amenities — walk-in closets and single vanities and shower/tub combos in the bathroom — but different in personality, as created by bespoke draperies and custom lighting fixtures. The primary suite sits on the mid-level and shares an oversize bathroom — freestanding deep soaking tub, marble walk-in shower, double vanity — with the home’s fifth bedroom.
Families and groups of friends who want a vacation home in Jackson Hole that is as engaging and exciting as the adventures to be had around the valley should consider Ridge Retreat.
