5 Best Summer Events in Jackson Hole

Summer is the sweet spot in mountain towns. Snow on the slopes is replaced by lush meadows filled with wildflowers, the temps are warm and welcoming, and there is a celebration vibe in the air as people trade their parkas for cool, breezy skirts and shorts. Just as soon as the 4th of July parade’s last contingent floats down Broadway on Jackson’s Town Square, it’s like a race gun has sounded the start of summer in the Tetons. The rest of July and August are filled with festivals and fairs. Here’s a handful of the best summer events to add to your calendar when visiting Jackson Hole in the summer months.

Farmers Market Produce Cartons 1

Farmer’s Market Saturdays

The Jackson Hole Farmer’s Market on the Town Square showcases the bounty of local and regional farmers. Every Saturday morning in July through the end of September, downtown Jackson is transformed into an open-air market full of farmers and food vendors selling the freshest of baked goods and veggies. From 8:00 am to noon, the square is a bustle with shoppers, sellers, and friends connecting around their shared love of food. Often while the music of a fiddle or familiar folk song peels through the air, children run and giggle on the lawn in the picnic-like setting at the center of it all. Jackson’s Farmers Market is nothing less than pure delight with booths full of cookies and honey as well as fresh-picked flowers and a large selection of locally grown produce, eggs, and meat.

Grand Teton Music Festival Walk Festival Hall Orchestra

Grand Teton Music Festival

For eight glorious weeks each July and August, Jackson Hole gets its own symphony orchestra. Held mainly in the acclaimed Walk Festival Hall in Teton Village, performances astound when sought-after classical musicians hailing from 75 major orchestras come together to present symphonic and chamber music concerts under the direction of Sir Donald Runnicles. The concerts offer the opportunity to dress up a little and savor sophisticated music in an intimate setting where crescendos and acceleratos excite the audience. Festival musicians also participate in Grand Teton Music Festival’s free education and community engagement programs with select presentations of solo pianists, performances by non-classical artists, and outdoor concerts throughout the summer.

In a Landscape: Classical Music in the Wild

Classical Pianist Hunter Noack’s In a Landscape” is an outdoor classical music series consisting of 40 concerts across six Western states which has recently included concerts in Jackson, Wyoming. The performances in Jackson are set in the magical space of the private Woodbury Preserve with the clear gurgling waters of Cache Creek flowing through lush willows on an old homestead surrounded by aspen trees. Whatever landscape you happen to be in, the In a Landscape” concert is a special way to celebrate the delicacies of summer. Bring your favorite outdoor chair or blanket and your very own picnic to these exclusive open-air concerts. Tickets include use of specially designed headphones for a one-of-a-kind audio experience.
