Healing at Altitude Jackson Hole’s Signature Wellness Offerings
Picture this.
You just embarked on an eight-mile, round-trip hike (gaining 2,300 feet) to majestic Delta Lake in Grand Teton National Park, navigating switchbacks, boulder fields, and steep inclines. Upon completion of this strenuous climb, you are rewarded with a turquoise-colored lake (comprised of glacial runoff) and a proximal view of the Grand Teton that seems close enough to touch. This scene is, arguably, one of the most remarkable views in the world, and it’s well worth the effort. So, you decide to take a dip in the frigid waters (Cold plunge, anyone?) before completing the slog back down.
The next day, you emerge from bed feeling worn out after your big adventure and in need of a little pick-me-up. Luckily, Jackson’s vibrant wellness scene — replete with rejuvenating spas, yoga studios, picturesque hot springs, and customized in-home treatments — can relieve your tired muscles and offer some reprieve from a busy vacation in paradise.
Body Sage Spa at Rusty Parrot Lodge, Jackson
The Body Sage Spa is a Jackson town icon. Once housed in a tiny cabin adjacent to the Rusty Parrot Lodge (before a 2019 fire burned the premises), this sprawling rejuvenation station now houses both an indoor and outdoor relaxation lounge, complete with an outdoor hot tub, and encompasses two floors, with six treatment rooms and two bathhouse-style “ritual” rooms.
Spa coordinator, Hannah Higgins, urges guests to schedule one of the spa’s rituals, inspired by traditional bathhouse rituals, and specifically crafted for the outcome you need. Body Sage’s rituals include practices like an energetic crystal exfoliation or a CBD-infused herbal sugar scrub. Higgins’ favorite ritual, appropriately named “Unfold,” includes a full-body exfoliation, a body wrap, an immersive seaweed leaf bathing ritual, and a hydrating massage. She says this package is ideal for couples, and she highlights the added touch of a special tea that features a blooming flower.
This Body Sage Spa offers a full menu of add-ons, too, so even if you’re just coming in for a massage, you can uplevel your experience by tacking on an invigorating scalp treatment, a hand or foot melt, or a full-face mask (to name a few).
“We pride ourselves on being extremely customizable,” says Higgins, ”Our massages are offered with a light, medium, or firm pressure, depending on what your body needs. And you can tack on some add-ons, too, so that every single time you come in, the experience is going to be different.”
Chill Spa, Hotel Terra, Teton Village
Located on the rooftop of Hotel Terra, at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, sits a boutique oasis. The Chill Spa’s signature offerings include its Eminence Organic Skincare facials and a rooftop hot tub with 360-degree views.
The minute you step out of the elevator, you are greeted by a serene environment, complete with a relaxation lounge and complimentary drinks and snacks. If jet lag (or the altitude gain) has you feeling unlike your usual self, opt for the spa’s Jat Lag Reviver, an hour and twenty-minute treatment that includes a full body wrap or a scrub followed by an energy-boosting massage to recharge and revive your being.
Housecall Hydration’s In-Home IVs
Visitors wanting to take their wellness practice to the next level can enlist the help of the nurses at Housecall Hydration. Maybe you’re suffering from jet lag, or you want to up your immune response after a long day of travel. Maybe you completed a bucket-list summit of The Grand, or you’re suffering from altitude sickness and just feel a little off at Jackson’s 6,200 feet. This professional group of registered nurses can come to your rental home and administer an IV cocktail that gets you back in the game.
“We cater to those with altitude sickness and hangovers, and people hosting corporate events or conferences,” says nurse manager Liz Hunt, “Maybe it’s their daughter’s wedding and they want to make sure that everyone is feeling good for the big day.”
Hunt says, once booked (via the website or by phone), a nurse will come to your residence, have you complete an intake form, take your vitals, and conduct a mini consultation. If you’re sick, the nurse will then consult with a doctor about the best IV solution for your ailment. If you just need a wellness boost, the nurse will then administer one of Housecall’s signature cocktails, like the Meyer’s Cocktail, a special blend of B and C vitamins.
“You’ll feel more energetic with all the B vitamins in the Meyers Cocktail, which enhance energy and improve immunity,” says Hunt. “The base of immune-boosting vitamins also affects mood and energy, plus there’s a detoxing additive to help aid the liver’s natural detoxification process.”
Hunt explains that the vitamins are added to 1 liter of fluid, which also contains vital electrolytes, making it much more hydrating than simply drinking water. And if the thought of an IV gives you the heebie-jeebies, Hunt assures that all Housecall’s nurses are proficient with IVs and also work in the ER, surgery, or labor and delivery.
“Most people are surprised by the quick, easy, and painless process,” says Hunt, “IV timing is usually about 45 minutes, and everything is customized to the client. It’s a real personal service.”
“A large majority of our clients are familiar with our service, and IVs are already part of their lifestyle,” she adds, “We just plug into their regular schedule [while they’re on vacation].”
Hunt also notes that the team treats sick patients who don’t want to visit urgent care but would rather be treated in the convenience of their rental home. “And it’s more economical than an ER visit,” she says.
Inversion Yoga & Pilates Studio, Jackson
Speaking of keeping up healthy lifestyle habits while on vacation …
Inversion Yoga and Pilates Studio offers up to 12 classes a day, making it easy to sneak a yoga or Pilates class into your itinerary. The studio provides hot, warm, and regular yoga options, as well as Reformer Pilates classes, Barre classes, and breathwork sessions. They even have a Spanish-speaking class for those who prefer to practice in their native language.
The studio also offers monthly events, like teacher trainings, Pilates for injuries, and meditation circles, which provide a deep dive into wellness practices that further connect you to Jackson’s local community.
When you’re done, hit up the café for one of Inversion’s specialty espresso drinks or signature coffee alternatives, like an anti-inflammatory golden milk with turmeric and ginger, or an adaptogenic mushroom coffee containing ashwagandha, lion’s mane, and maca. You can also choose from the café’s extensive smoothie menu, or order a nourishing toast with gourmet toppers, a superfoods bowl, or a cup of bone broth.
Those looking for a low-key wellness excursion that requires little planning — and one you can share with the whole family — should visit Astoria Hot Springs Park. This picture-perfect excursion is perched above the Snake River on aboriginal land once occupied by indigenous people. It consists of six soaking pools of various temperatures filled with healing geothermal mineral waters that contain magnesium, sulfur, calcium, potassium, sodium, and chloride to ease sore muscles and promote relaxation.
After exiting the changing rooms, you are greeted by a large warm pool (great for families with kids) and a path that brings you to a series of soaking pools that get hotter as you descend towards the river. The park also offers a cold plunge pool for those who wish to partake in contrast baths (alternating hot and cold water) to relieve pain, relax muscles, and improve circulation. Buy tickets online before you head there; pool sessions are restricted to very mellow max occupancy.
When you’re simply maxed out by overextending yourself in our active mountain community, it’s nice to know reprieve is just a booking or a house call away. Jackson’s wellness offerings should be an essential inclusion to any outdoor-centric vacation. Because, after all, it’s about going home relaxed and rejuvenated, right?
