First Look: Inside The Clear Creek Group’s New Office Space
The Clear Creek Group’s new offices, located at 980 West Broadway, showcase the attention to detail and elevated quality that are the hallmarks of the luxury villa rental pioneer in Jackson Hole. Guided by the philosophy of community, sustainability, and authenticity since opening in 2005, The Clear Creek Group found its new home in a building that was formerly Hole Bowl, situated in the Powderhorn Mall, kitty-corner to REI.
The space underwent a complete renovation that transformed it from a bowling alley, bar, and casual eatery into the vibrant, new headquarters for The Clear Creek Group. The result is a testament to founder and CEO Morgan Bruemmer’s commitment to design excellence and vision. Innovative concepts helped to reimagine the large-scale space, making thoughtful use of everything from a commercial kitchen to sky-high ceilings.
The spaciousness of the floorplan defined the look and feel of individual areas. Intentional arrangement of furnishings and lighting serve to thoughtfully segment the space into specific uses. Outfitting each unique “room” had a mindful purpose achieved by balancing the positive spaces like furniture with the negative (open) spaces and created a sophisticated, modern feel with a casual twist.
The walls are washed in muted color tones of sealskin, tricorn black, and warm white, while complementary carpeting and Herman Miller furnishings provide the elements of modern elegance blended with a comfortable feeling that fosters conversation and collaboration among co-workers. Regarding the high industrial ceiling, unobtrusive ochre paint allows it to fade away amongst the industrial duct work, while playful, orb chandeliers lower the head space.
Stylish lounge seating in the front lobby area, wooden work tables for guests, and a central conference room surrounded by glass walls contribute to an open-air feeling. Individual offices, also with glass walls, support focused, quiet work, while a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows at the front of the building draws in natural light.
Fun features retained from the original bowling alley include a long, straight bar (fully stocked) along with a vintage, light-up marquee spelling “BOWL” hung high on a limewashed brick wall. There is a ping-pong table for employees, and even a full, commercial kitchen which has been restored to newness for preparing chef-inspired meals complete with Design Within Reach metal café tables encouraging social connections and gastronomic adventures.
The building is large enough that The Clear Creek Group utilizes some of the space to store hospitality essentials in neat boxes set upon rows of attractive warehouse shelving that blend into the overall layout, complementing the character and mixed uses of the space. Part workspace, part entertaining, the expansive new offices welcome both. A corridor with underlit lights in the back of the building joins the two like a tunnel opening to either side — the office spaces on one and the industrial, entertainment side on the other.
Even the soft, gray-blue ceiling color of the portico above the front doors is intentional. Derived from a tradition originating from the early African-American, Gullah culture, the colored ceiling symbolizes protection. The Gullah’s rich cultural heritage includes the practice of painting porch ceilings a watery shade of blue to repel ghosts, stemming from the belief that haints (or ghosts) were afraid of water, and today is a popular tradition in the South.
