Local Non-Profit Spotlight: Slow Food in the Tetons
In our fast-moving world of drive-thru dining, app ordering, same-day delivery, and insta-everything, the concept of ‘slow food’ stands out as an anomaly. However, in the beautiful Jackson Hole valley, where the wilderness forces a more natural pace and supports a balanced lifestyle, Slow Food in the Tetons helps our community sync to a slower rhythm — one that locals have come to relish.
Established in 2006 with the goal of creating a community food system that is good, clean, and fair for everyone in the greater Teton area, Slow Food in the Tetons is considered a pioneer in the slow-food movement. Well known for holding the summer People’s Market — a weekly community affair that showcases local producers’ food and flowers along with hand-crafted goods during Jackson’s warmer months, Slow Food in the Tetons offers so much more!
Not only has the popular People’s Market grown to include an indoor winter version, Slow Food offers an array of community-centric programs which include the seasonal Slow Food Farm Stand, a valuable, community resource that features nearly 20 local and regional growers. Slow Food also hosts a year-round online marketplace, cooking and gardening classes, as well as community gardens. The biannual, family-friendly Farm to Fork Festival celebrates the valley’s food community with a locally sourced feast, workshops, and market vendors. All of Slow Food in the Teton’s programs are intended to build connections between local food producers and the community while highlighting the resources in our local food network.
The Clear Creek Group shines the spotlight on Slow Food in the Tetons because it believes in the non-profit’s mission to connect the community with local food producers which in turn supports our community’s overall health and well-being. Plus, we all know that locally produced food is fresher and tastier!
Slow Food in the Tetons is part of Slow Food USA and International. Along with highlighting its mission to grow our local and regional sustainable food system by supporting producers, educating consumers, and connecting them together, here we learn more about them in their own words:
